5月4日の「みどりの日」に、縮景園で新茶の摘み取りが行われました。

本校からも茶道部の部員たちが参加し、青々と茂ったお茶の葉を摘み、
揉み、そして新茶として振舞うお手伝いをさせて頂きました。

生徒たちは慣れない手付きでしたが、どのようにお茶が作られるのか、
また新茶の美味しさを実感していました。

今日は、理科で有機物、無機物を調べる実験を行っていました。
実験の観察ができるということで、生徒は嬉しそうに実験室に向かっていました。

実験が始まると、GW明けで疲れているようでしたが、どの生徒も目を輝かせ、熱心に観察していました。

実験を通じて、理解度と授業への意欲が高まることを期待しています。

As you enter AICJ today, you will see colorful flags of the EU countries. Hoisted along with the Japan flag is the blue EU flag. Currently there are 27 countries as members of the EU and 3 candidate countries. Slovenia is one of the members and Mr. Mirn Skender, the Slovenian ambassador gave us an interesting talk during lesson 6 and 7.

He showed us pictures of the capital city Ljubljana which has beautiful buildings, a river flowing through, open markets and a big statue of a dragon which is the symbol of the country. Next he spoke about Postojna Cave, which has a concert hall that can host 10,000 people and also has many beautiful formations. Slovenia still produces salt by old methods using natural salt pans. It also produces a lot of wine.

Slovenia holds the presidency of the EU. The EU commission makes policies and is made up of ministers of different EU countries. The 1st EU was established in 1950 with 6 countries and has grown a lot to this day.

May 9th is celebrated as EU day and the people celebrate the growth and prosperity of the EU countries.

スロベニア共和国駐日大使訪問

2008年5月8日、AICJ中学・高等学校をスロベニア駐日大使が訪問されました。AICJではヨーロッパ連合加盟国の国旗や、ヨーロッパ連合の旗を掲げました。
現在ヨーロッパ連合には27カ国が加盟しており、3カ国が候補国になっています。スロベニアはヨーロッパ連合に加盟しており、この度スロベニア駐日大使であるミラン・スケンデル氏がお見えになりました。
６，７時間目に行われた講演では、美しい建築物が立ち並ぶスロベニアの首都であるリュブリャナの様子、大勢の人でにぎわうマーケット、風光明美な山・川・湖、国のシンボルである竜の彫刻などをたくさんの写真で紹介して頂きました。コンサート場を備えたポストニャ鍾乳洞はとても美しく、1万人を収容できるそうです。古くから伝わる方法による塩作りは有名でワインも盛んに生産されているという事です。
ヨーロッパ連合は1950年に加盟国6カ国から始まり、今日までの発展を遂げています。5月9日は『EUデー（ヨーロッパ連合の日）』。この日はヨーロッパ連合の発展と繁栄を人々が祝います。

今日は体育祭の出場種目決定の締切日。
どのクラスでも、出場種目を決めるために、話し合いをしていました。
　
今年は、昨年発足した生徒会が中心となって、生徒達が競技種目を考えました。
生徒達の提案で、去年非常に盛り上がった騎馬戦は今年は男女共に実施されることになりました。
騎馬戦は女子にも大人気！あっという間に枠が埋まっていきました。
勇敢に戦う女子の姿、楽しみです。
新たに加わった競技や演技もたくさんあります。
応援団は、休憩時間や放課後を利用し、一生懸命応援合戦の練習をしています。

今年は紅白どちらが勝つのでしょうか。
　
体育祭まであと２週間。これからますます練習にも熱が入りそうです。

本日は今年度初めての授業参観日でした。

生徒にとっては普段どのような授業をどういった様子で受けているかを
保護者の方に見てもらえる、大切な機会です。

特に中学1年生と高校1年生にとっては、入学後初めての参観日なので
少し緊張した面持ちでしたが、中学生はいつも通り生き生きと、高校生は
真剣な表情を崩すことなく授業を受けていました。

雨天にも関わらず足をお運びくださった多くの保護者の方々、ありがとうございました。

参観日も終わり、いよいよ体育祭まで2週間をきりました。
体育祭に向け、応援団の練習もさらに熱が入ってきているようです。
　　　　　　　　　
毎日赤団・白団が交互に、昼休みを利用して練習をしています。
外は少し肌寒いくらいの天気でしたが、指導される先生と応援団1人1人の熱意で熱気に満ちていました。
練習の様子を見ていると、特に、短い時間で集中してやろうという真剣な眼差しが印象的でした。
　　　　　　　　　
忙しい時間の中で上手に時間を活用するということは、日々の生活の中でも非常に大切なことです。
行事からも大切なことを学ぶことができるのではないでしょうか。
近づいてきた体育祭がとても楽しみです。

　校内では体育祭に向け着々と準備が進んでいます。体育の授業では競技や集団演技の練習、放課後は団長のリーダーシップの下、応援の練習が進んでいます。
　そして校内のある部屋でもまた着々と当日に向けての準備が進んでいます。様々な人が様々な準備を重ねて行事は完成へと向かうのですね。
　素晴らしい体育祭をみんなで創りあげましょう。

　気持ちの良い五月晴れが続いています。青空のもと、AICJの生徒たちは体育祭の準備を進めたり練習に励んだりしています。
　勉強と運動の両立に忙しい生徒たちですが、今日は少し気分転換にGrade10の体育の授業では男女混合サッカーを行いました。男女仲良く汗を流している姿はとても輝いていました。
　体育祭でも男女仲良く、学校が一丸となって楽しい一日が送れるといいですね。　

Last year was AICJ's first big sports festival, and it was perfect! The weather was great, the students enjoyed the competition, and the parents had a good time watching all the excitement, too. It was so fun that I didn't even mind tumbling down during the relay race and losing to the students. (Oops! Maybe everyone had forgotten about that.) Well, this year's sports festival should be just as fantastic. Students are practicing hard some interesting dances, and two of them are traditional New Zealand dances that may surprise you! Come and see the dancing and races. Don't miss the fun!

去年AICJ中学・高等学校の第1回目の体育祭が盛大に行われました。良い天候に恵まれ、生徒たちは喜んで競技に参加し、保護者の方々も嬉しそうに参観されていました。楽しかった思い出ばかりで、私自身リレーで転んで生徒に負けた事すら苦になりませんでした。（これはもう皆が忘れてくれているかと思いますが・・）さて今年の体育祭も素敵なものとなることを信じています。生徒達は踊りを練習したり、それもニュージーランドの伝統的なものを練習しているようですので、とても楽しみです。是非足をお運び下さい。必ず思い出深いものとなりますから！

The new grade 7 students have just begun studying a new book in their English classes called "First Choice" from Oxford University Press. It is an exciting book that helps them develop the four skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening. The students are full of enthusiasm and excitement about learning English. It is really exciting and rewarding to see them developing their language skills as the term progresses.

Students are getting a lot of practice at speaking with different group and pair work activities in order to get the students using the language they are learning. Students also have weekly vocabulary to learn which comes from their textbooks and also includes the essential vocabulary they need to prepare them for the Eiken test. Remember revision and practice are the keys to improving.

Let's hope they keep up their enthusiasm and excitement about learning English.

新中1年生の英語の授業では、新しい教科書「First Choice」に導入しています。これはオックスフォード大学出版のものです。この教科書は、リーディング、ライティング、スピーキング、リスニングの英語の4技能を伸ばすもので、とても良く出来ています。生徒達はやる気いっぱいで学んでいます。学期が進むにつれますます上達する生徒達を見るのが、教師にとっては一番のやりがいです。

生徒達はグループを組んで、スピーキングの練習をしたり、日々学んでいる英単語を使い、様々なアクティビティをペアで行ったりしています。生徒達は毎週教科書にそって新しい英単語を学びます。また英検などに備えたりします。復習をしたり練習したりすることが上達の鍵です。

生徒皆がやる気を保ち、これからも学び続けることを祈っています。

It started with sunshine, smiles and laughter and it continued that way until well into the late afternoon. It was of course our AICJ Sports Day practice.
After a quick run through the opening ceremony, the events started. Highlights in the morning were a stirring performance of the Maori Haka by the boys and a graceful poi dance by the girls. The relay races also had the Red and White supporters cheering and willing their teams to do their best. After a well deserved lunch break, the students returned to the grounds where everyone particularly enjoyed watching the caterpillar race with the human caterpillars in their cardboard skins showing great ingenuity in moving across the field. A quick game of last year's favorite,　Piggy Back Battle, rounded off the afternoon and left us all hot, dusty, thirsty but definitely excited about Saturday's Sports Day. We look forward to welcoming our students' families and friends to share in the fun and team spirit in Saturday 24th May.

太陽と笑顔、そして笑い声溢れる中、午後まで体育祭の予行が行われました。

開会式の後、種目が始まりました。午前中の目玉の出し物といえば、ニュージーランドの踊り「マオリのハカ」（男子）と「ポイ」（女子）です。またリレーでは赤組と白組が応援合戦を繰り広げ、一生懸命生徒達は走っていました。昼休憩の後は、「キャタピラーレース」。ダンボールで作った殻に入ってレースをするこの種目では見た目も大変面白く、皆喜んでいました。また去年のハイライトであった「騎馬戦」。土ぼこりが上がる中、接線を繰り広げていました。本番まで待ちきれません。

ご家族やお友達の皆さん、是非とも5月24日（土）（雨天の場合、25日（日）へ順延）、体育祭へお越し下さい。

The weather was hot and the sky was clear for practice yesterday, and the evidence sure showed itself today. All over AICJ this morning, homeroom classes opened with greetings by roomfuls of smiling, suntanned faces. Excitement is running high, as both students and staff are looking forward to this year's Sports Day, and everyone is crossing their fingers, hoping for clear skies on Saturday.

You would think that it would be back to classes as normal today, but this afternoon the students had a dental check-up. After yesterday's Sports Day practice, the dental check-up just wasn't as exciting as one would have expected. Everyone got to take home a dental mirror, though, which is about as good a souvenir as you can get.

晴れた空、雲ひとつない中、体育祭の予行が行われました。その中で精一杯やったおかげで、朝から生徒は元気な顔を見せ、中には少し日焼けしている生徒たちもいました。生徒と職員は、間近に迫った体育祭を心待ちにしています。土曜日がどうか晴れますように、そう皆願っています。

今日は普段とは少し異なり、歯科検診がありました。体育祭の予行明けだったせいもあり、生徒たちはすこしつかれた様子でした。お土産として小さな診断鏡を生徒たちは頂きました。

Preparations for Sports Day are in full swing, and everyone is looking out the window and wondering when the heavens will heave open their gates and washes the city with wild stormy spring rains. Humidity is high, clouds are coalescing and there is a taste of Thor's Thunder on the sharpening breeze. Will it or won't it? Saturday or Sunday? Perhaps if we're lucky it'll be on a Monday?? Let's hope whenever it is, Sports Day 2009 is not a day to remember for torrential rains and mud baths, but a day remembered for its fun and laughter, fierce competition and good natured winners, new friendships formed and challenges achieved, and all school togetherness, all for one, all for one AICJ, one AICJ for all.

現在、体育祭へ向け最後の準備に追われています。みんな窓の外を見て、春の雨が降るのか降らないのか、一体天気の神様は私たちにどのように微笑んでくれるのでしょうか。

湿気は高く、雲が出てきています。ゴロゴロ雷神が来る気配もしています。雨になるのか？ならないのか？土曜日か日曜日か？月曜日になるのか？いつになるとしても、今年の体育祭が泥まみれの体育祭にならないように、しっかりみんなが楽しめる体育祭になるように祈っています。

学校が一丸となって、みんなのために一人が、そして一人のためにみんなが協力し合える、友情を育むことのできる体育祭となることを祈っています。

入場行進はたくさんの人と足並みを揃えなければいけないので、
みんな一生懸命に体育の時間に練習しました。
去年よりも学年・生徒数も増えたので、とてもダイナミックで
見応えもあり「今日の体育祭　頑張るぞ！」という雰囲気が伝わる行進でした。

１年生の集団競技ハリケーンではそれぞれのクラスで並ぶ順番やコーンの回り方などを考え、
教員と一緒になって頑張っていました。

勝敗もありますがクラス全員が力を合わせて協力し一致団結することが重要だと、生徒たちは
改めて認識したと思います。

高校生の熱い指揮のもと、赤組・白組にわかれて応援合戦！
取り組む姿勢においても皆を導く気迫は頼もしく、観客をも引きつけるものでした。
中学生の『広島音頭』や『Maori Culture Perfomance』にも大変魅せられました。
とくに高校１・２年生合同の『よさこいソーラン』は圧巻でした！！
