あいにくの雨天ではありましたが、AICJ中学・高等学校第三回入学式が
盛大に挙行されました。
161名の新入生のしっかりした決意表明に、出席した在校生たちも先輩としての自覚を
新たにした一日でした。明日からの学校生活に、期待に胸を膨らませた新入生とともに、
新たなAICJの歴史を創っていきたいと思います。楽しい学校生活を共に送りましょう。

今日は、始業式。AICJ中学・高等学校の新学期のスタートです。
昨日、入学した新入生たちからは、明日からの授業を大いに期待する
声が口々に聞かれます。

新しい生徒たち、そして新しい先生方を迎え、AICJ中学・高等学校は、
世界一の授業を目指して、取り組んでいきます。

今日から2008年度の授業がスタートしました。
新しいクラスメートと受ける授業に緊張気味な表情も見えましたが
みんな元気に登校してきました。

新学期ということもあり気持ち新たに勉強に取り組んでくれることと思います。

新しいクラスで新しい仲間と協力しながら勉強や部活、さまざまな学校行事を
通して成長していってくれることを望んでいます。

本日は、中学生・高校生とも健康診断がありました。

身長・体重はもちろん、視力・聴力も測定しました。去年よりも一回り成長したことを
生徒自身が数字で確認できるとあって、皆にこやかでスムーズに進行しました。

心身ともに大きく成長する時期です。
健やかにのびのび成長して欲しいと願っています。

新年度を迎えるに当たり、先日校舎校門を入ってすぐのところに2本のポールと石碑が設置されました。

2本のポールには国旗と校旗が、新しい石碑には本校の教育目標である
「自立independence」と「貢献contribution」の文字が刻まれています。

わが校の全ての子どもたちが、自己犠牲の精神を有し、自らの野心や能力を
社会に役立たせることのできる人物を目標にしてくれることを切に願います。

桜の木も新しい緑の葉を身にまとい始め、初夏への兆しを感じる学園の昼下がりです。

昨年度に引き続き、今年度もCaS活動を行っています。
今日は下祇園駅の花壇の手入れを行いました。

この花壇は、一昨年度から生徒が花を植えたり、手入れを行ったりしています。
地域に貢献することも重要なことです。

まだ今回は中2以上の学年の生徒のみですが、中1や高1も加わってよい伝統を
作ってくれるでしょう。

今日は校友会室をご紹介します。

校友会室は、生徒会執行部の活動場所です。
昨年の12月に発足したばかりの生徒会にとって、5月24日に開かれる
体育祭は初めての大きな行事です。

生徒主体で、生徒みんなが喜んでくれるような体育祭を目指して、
話し合いも佳境に入ってきました。

体育祭が大成功となるように頑張ります！

今日は自習室を紹介します。

昨日より自習室が開室されました。

さっそく数名の生徒が、マナーよく、自学に励んでいました。
自習室には、独特の緊張感ある静けさが漂います。

この静けさの中での学習が、集中力をもたらし、
大きな学習効果をあげてくれるでしょう。

生徒のみなさん、積極的に活用してくださいね。

今日は図書室をご紹介します。

ＡＩＣＪ中学・高等学校の図書室には、洋書を含め数多くの蔵書が揃えられています。
司書は外国人教師が担当しており、休み時間には多くの生徒がここで時間を過ごします。

読書は、読解力がつくだけでなく、想像力・表現力もつき人生が豊かになると思います。
生徒には一冊でも多くの本を読んでほしいものです。

Students arrived at school early on Saturday morning to prepare for a soccer match against Hiroshima International School. The soccer coach was waiting patiently for the students to arrive so that he could prepare them for the coming challenge. Would the waiting crowd be seeing the new David Beckham or Shinsuke Nakamura in action? We would have to wait and see!

With a final cry of `Boys - Be Ambitious!` the students took to the field. The first match was between the Junior High Schools and after much effort the AICJ team won comfortably 11 - 2. The High School game was a much closer game with AICJ finally winning by 5 - 3.

All of the players from both AICJ and Hiroshima International Schools played with great spirit and determination that it was a pleasure for all students, teachers and parents to watch. The winner, as always, was good sportsmanship.

先週の土曜日、AICJ　対　広島インターナショナルスクールのサッカー試合が行われました。
生徒たちは朝早く集まり、チャレンジに備えていました。
次のベッカムや中村がこの中から出てくるのだろうか？観衆はその瞬間を待っていました。
「少年よ、大志を抱け」－その精神のもと、いざ生徒たちは試合に臨みました。

第1試合は11対2でAICJ中学校の勝利。
高等学校の試合は接戦でしたが5対３でAICJが勝ちました。
AICJ、広島インターナショナルスクール両校の生徒たちは、彼らの偉大なスポーツ精神のもと
すばらしい試合を展開してくれました。

The 2008 school year promises to be an exciting time for our middle school students who are all enrolled in our new English Geography program. In order for students to be true ‘World Citizens’, they will need to be able to understand both their own community and environment and that of the world outside of Japan.

With our goal of creating ‘World Citizens’, we are providing students with opportunities to gain the skills and understanding they need through our geography program.

During first term, grade 7 and 8 students will begin using numerous tools that geographers use to help make sense of the world around them. Students have begun creating their own AICJ iGoogle Geography homepage. These homepages will allow students to post videos on You Tube while they are away on summer excursions, communicate directly with parents and other students and to utilize the internet more effectively to conduct research.

Students have already begun using Google Earth and Skype in class to talk with teachers and later, with students in my sister’s social studies class in Vancouver, Canada.

The grade 9 program is focusing on students understanding of the different kinds of geography including economic, cultural, recreational and physical in the local community. Students are currently working on creating their own maps of Hiroshima incorporating the various kinds of geography into their maps.

This year the grade 7’s will be participating in the 2nd annual New Zealand Motutapo Island tree planting excursion as part of their community and service projects. These experiences are all geared towards preparing students for entry into the IB program in the future.

We really hope students will love the geography program and we look forward to sharing our work with you soon.

2008年度のAICJ中学校の地理の英語で行われる授業は、とてもエキサイティングなものとなります。

生徒たちは日本と世界のコミュニティ、そして環境について学び、「世界で活躍する人材」に必要とされるスキルを、地理の英語で行われる授業で学びます。

7年生（中1）と8年生（中2）はまず、地理学者たちが実際環境を知る上で使用する道具について学びます。またAICJ　iGoogle Geography　ホームページを作成し、夏期研修中に撮影したビデオをYou Tubeを使い載せたり、保護者や他の生徒たちとコミュニケーションを図るためにインターネットを使用したりと、オンライン活用術、オンライン・リサーチ術を学びます。

生徒たちはすでにGoogle EarthやSkypeを使用し、カナダのバンクーバー市にある学校の生徒たちと
コミュニケーションしたりしています。

9年生（中3）の授業では経済、文化、娯楽などのさまざまな角度から地理を学びます。
現在生徒たちは、さまざまな要素を含んだ独自の広島マップを作成しています。

また7年生（中１）は夏休みを利用して行われるニュージーランド研修で、今年2回目となるニュージーランドでの植林活動に参加します。これらの経験を通し、生徒たちは更に成長し、そして将来IBプログラムへ進学する手助けになると考えています。

生徒の皆さん、地理の授業を思い切り楽しみましょう。

今日は、中学3年生が全国学力・学習状況調査を受験しました。

これは、文部科学省が全国の中学3年生を対象に行っているもので、
数学・国語のテストに加え、普段の学習状況をはかるものです。
新しい年度になり、みんなクラスのメンバーとも仲良く楽しそうに過ごしていますが、
テスト中の表情からは、真剣さが伝わってきました。

日頃の頑張りが、成果に表れるといいですね。

去る4月19日（土）高陽東高等学校にて開催されました表記の大会についての結果をご報告致します。

男子団体戦に、高2の5名が出場、決勝トーナメントには勝ち進めませんでしたが、リーグ戦で
昨年度優勝した沼田高校と五日市高校と善戦し、次回５月１０日、１１日に福山ローズ
アリーナで行われます県予選会へとコマを進めました。

更に、中国大会出場を目標に、練習に励んで参りますので、引き続き応援よろしくお願い致します。

新入生の部活体験が行われました。
みんな、思い思いの部活を見学に行き、GW明けから本入部となります。
中学生は、3学年がすべてそろい本格的に活動を行っていきます。
勉強とクラブ活動の両立は大変ですが、みんながんばってくれると思います。
みなさんも応援してあげて下さい。

Today, April 25th is the Open Day of the Discovery Club. The students are invited to visit and see our Discovery Club at the Science Laboratory, 3rd Floor at 4:30 pm. The students have a chance to meet our members and see the activities today.

This school year is the third year of the Discovery Club. For the past two years, we had exciting activities, experiments, investigations, and field trips. One of them was visiting the Transportation Museum in Hiroshima and we learned about the different transportation system, its history, and its advance technology. We also have some fun during our visit there. The students rode the different kinds of vehicles and even experienced to drive them. One of the interesting and unique vehicles that we experienced was "segway" - it is a two-wheeled, self-balancing electric vehicle. Our members have great experienced in riding segway.

This afternoon, we have ordered fossil rocks and we are going to break and investigate them. Come and let see what will happen to the fossil rocks.

On Monday 28th April, 2008 Grade 9 students went on a field trip to Miyajima under the supervision of AICJ teachers.

The meeting place was on Miyajima and all students and teachers were there by 0930. Students were divided into groups and were given instructions on what they were supposed to do by the coordinator of the event. Each group of students was given a small booklet which contained maps of different parts of the island and which also contained questions and instructions on where the students had to go to find answers to the various questions asked.

It proved to be a very interesting activity for the students because they had to visit a few temples and discover other sites on the island in order to be able to answer all the questions in the booklet. Teachers had to make sure that students were on the right track in their search for the specific sites mentioned in the booklet. Members of the staff took photos of the students while they were involved in their activities.

From 1130 to 1230 we had lunch in the park located in the central part of the island and from 1230 to 1430 students completed the second part of their search for information about the sites indicated in the booklet.
By 1500 all students had completed their assignments and we took the ferry back to Hiroshima. It was a very enriching experience for students as well as for teachers because we learned a bit more about the beautiful island of Miyajima and teachers had the opportunity to meet students in a more relaxing environment. It’s certainly the type of activity that must be organized again so that students and teachers can discover other interesting places in Japan.
